Nominations have now opened for Ð԰ɵç̨’s big SDG Awards Night to celebrate those students and staff who have gone the extra mile for sustainability.
Seven awards are up for grabs on Friday 5 December, and we are looking for your nominations of those who made a difference with their work towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
A new award is being introduced this year to mark Ð԰ɵç̨ becoming the global academic hub chair for the United Nations’ SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities.
The SDG 11 Project of the Year will mark work in the field of sustainable cities and communities, which includes housing, transport, recreation and disaster resilience.
The full list of awards is:
SDG Project of the Year – this can be work or projects in any of the goals. There are three categories:
- Best student project
- Best staff project
- Best civic project
SDG Fellow of the Year – this is to mark contributions as the scheme celebrates its first anniversary. There are again three categories:
- Professional services Fellow of the Year
- Teaching Fellow of the Year
- Researcher/Knowledge Exchange Fellow of the Year.
The final award is the SDG 11 Project of the Year open to staff and students whose work is around sustainable cities.
The head of the SDG Impact Hub, Dr Mark Charlton, said: “The SDG Awards Night coming just before Christmas is always a great celebration of the tremendous work going on across the university.
“It will be made even more special this year as we celebrate being the only UK university holding a UN global academic hub chair and with the first anniversary of the SDG Fellows, who have done such a tremendous job with their work on and promoting all aspects of the SDGs.”
Staff and students are being urged to send in their nominations of who they believe should win the awards to dmusdg@dmu.ac.uk
The only details needed are the name of the person(s) or project and a short justification (one paragraph is fine). Self-nomination is, of course, permissible.
Nominations will close on Sunday 30 November.
The event takes place on Friday 5 December from 5pm at the SDG Impact Hub, Heritage House 2.05.
How to get involved: Email dmusdg@dmu.ac.uk for an invitation, or with your nomination.
