Personal profile

Amanda is an Associate Professor (Teaching & Learning) and Associate Head Education (AHE) of the School of Applied Social Sciences and sits on a number of university boards and committees. She is a qualified Social Worker with experience as a Supervising Social Worker, Senior Practitioner, Principle Social Worker, Team Manager and Service Manager within children and families service areas, and as an indpendent social work training and business development consultant. She maintains current registration with Social Work England.  

Research interests/expertise

Cultural competency in social work, diversity issues in fostering, the lived experience of Black and Minority Ethnic Looked After Children, spirituality in social work, decolonising social work education and training, the use of Southern theory in social work education, and critical analysis in social work. She also has an interest in theories of management and leadership.
